Private residence in Helsinki (2023)

This compact apartment in Helsinki is thoughtfully organised to maximise its limited space. Each area has a clear purpose, with a layered spatial hierarchy created through colour and textile choices. Curtains soften boundaries, affecting the acoustics. A mirrored sliding door separates the kitchen from the living area, protecting the living and sleeping areas from the everyday disorder of domestic life. Privacy is achieved not through enclosure, but through filtering and modulation.

Natural light enhances the textured surfaces and emphasises the rhythm of the curtains, while a sisal carpet grounds the rooms with a natural tactile quality. Mirrors expand the perception of space and create unexpected views towards the greenery outside the window. A subdued palette of greens, ochres, and pale hues unifies the rooms, enhanced by wooden accents and plants that add softness and create a seamless flow between spaces.
