Sara Hildén art museum – international open architectural competition (2021)

Kepos (κῆπος) symbolises a boundary between the city and nature, as well as reality and imagination.

The concept reimagines Tampere's Finlayson industrial area as a series of gardens, squares, and cultural spaces that invite citizens to gather, reflect, and engage with art. The museum’s folded stone façades echo the historic factory environment, while detailed craftsmanship and open designs foster a welcoming civic atmosphere. Public areas flow naturally into the new Sara Hildén Square and nearby park, crowned by a rooftop orangerie that mirrors the site’s past winter garden.

Developed with Collaboratorio (Martino De Rossi, Kristiina Kuusiluoma, and Paula Leiwo), the project earned an honourable mention among 472 entries for its striking spatial layout, interior detail, and architecture that powerfully captures the spirit of a modern art museum.
